Officer of the Klingon Bird of Prey commanded by Kruge.
Maltz was the only survivor of that ship’s crew after Kruge was killed on the Genesis Planet and the rest of the crew perished when the Enterprise was destroyed.
Maltz was taken prisoner when Kirk commandeered the Bird of Prey after Kruge was killed. (Star Trek III: The Search for Spock)
